What is Self-esteem?
Self esteem is a term phycology used to reflect a person's overall emotional respond of oneself worth. it is also known as a judgement and attitude towards oneself. self-esteem plays an important role in one's life because it encompasses ones beliefs (for example, "I will not success", "I can win") and emotions such as fear, ego, pride, and shame. A low self esteem can cause a negative result to oneself such as the feelings of unworthiness, shame, and discouragement.
Self-esteem is known as an influential predictor of relevant outcomes, such as academic achievement, body size, height, skin tone, attitude, or exercise behavior. Self esteem also known as self-worth, self-regard, and self-respect.
Parenting style plays a crucial role in self-esteem development. Children who have high self-esteem tend to have parents who are caring, supportive, listens to their children opinion in decision making, often praise their children for their achievement. To contribute a healthy and positive self-esteem development include being spoken to respectfully, listened to, receiving enough of attention, and having accomplishment recognized.
Low self esteem often comes from people who gets criticized often, not having enough of attention, and getting a lot of rejections.
